2 Corinthians 3:18

Ordinary Glory

Monday, May 26, 2014

This day.
This ordinary day.
It felt like glory was streaming down through the gentle sunbeams kissing his face. Illuminating the goodness of the day.
You know, those days you can just feel in the air?
You can just feel and almost smell the memories being made?

Glory.

Glory like I am fully aware somehow that I need to soak up every ounce of the vitamin D that this sunny day of joy was about to give me. Every one. So I did.
Enjoy some of these moments with me, friend.
I am sure they look a lot like your house.

Every trouble, every to do list, every fast heartbeat of anxiety all melts away at the ocean.
It is like we all are hanging in this hammock communing with God and his beauty and his gift of another world. These boys can feel it too. It is innate.
The salt, the sand, the cool water, the watermelon balls and sandy water bottles. Ordinary beach day. Memories in their tiny brains of this joy. Ordinary glory.

We take a salty, sweaty drive home in  traffic with the windows down to find plants that need planted. Doors that need painted. Dinner that needs made.
We nap instead.
We picnic instead.
We was the car just for fun instead.

We explore instead. We play in the sprinkler naked instead. (Well, not us grown ups) We soak in that vitamin filled glory of the present moment. It fills our cup. It strengthens our bones. It settles our soul.
What sort of ordinary glory moments are we missing in the grind of the day?
The whiny no nap day?
The everyone is all sick at the same time day?
The same schedule as yesterday day?

Let us find it friend. It is there.
It is often tiny and you almost miss it if you blink.
Let the ordinary glory in your day be like nourishment to your bones. Take it and swing from ordinary glory to ordinary glory--swinging over top the muck and mire. Glory to glory.

Hold onto that last joy until you can find the next one momma. Some days there are lots, some days few. Listen for His voice, see with His eyes and look for the glorious in the little moments.  We will all too quickly learn what a gift the present moment truly, truly is.

Honestly with love,
Rachel

2 Corinthians 3:18 says, "But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord."

Proverbs 3:5 says it best in the Message, "Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. Don’t assume that you know it all. Run to God! Run from evil! Your body will glow with health, your very bones will vibrate with life!"
