Remain

Monday, February 03, 2014

You know those days when you just can't put your finger on it but nothing anyone does is quite right?

You just feel a little lost in your day? The mess. The whining. Laughing too loud. Food on the floor. A welcome home kiss request you do not feel like fulfilling. Words that do not express enough. Emptying the trash but not putting a liner in. A chocolate chip cookie that makes you feel better for just a moment. Disappointment that is no ones fault.....

Your self worth is not tied up in what others think of you, if your kids are well behaved, if you are thin and gorgeous, in chocolate or cheese or compliments from someone you admire.
Joy when you have had a hard day is not in rewarding yourself with ice cream.
Loving yourself is not buying a new outfit.
Peace is not only a trip to the coffee shop childless.
Not in watching television for two hours in the evening to distract your thoughts.
Not in letting yourself have another handful of chips because you deserve them.
Not in a home that looks like "House Beautiful" magazine.
Not in sitting idly by while the world passes you, while He is calling your name. Calling. And calling.
None of those things quite fills you, does it?

He is saying, "remain in me and I will remain in you." Let Jesus fill that place of emptiness you just cannot quite fill. That place you feel empty and alone and are not sure why. That place you know you are not good enough. That small little or, maybe for you, big place of question and doubt in yourself.
Let Him seep into those broken places and heal them. He will, if you let Him.

Remain in Me, Rachel. Remain.

Those times as of late I have remained in Him, He has been more than enough. He always, always shows me, gives me, loves me more than I expect or deserve. I just need to keep running to Him throughout the day not just when I am to the point of saying, "I need a break. I need a cookie. I need a hug."

Another version of John 15:4 says, "Live in me. Make your home in me just as I do in you. In the same way that a branch can’t bear grapes by itself but only by being joined to the vine, you can’t bear fruit unless you are joined with me."

Remain in me and I will remain in you.

Remain in me.

Remain.

In the original text it used the word, "Meno" which in Greek means "abide, remain in, to be held by."

Let him hold you today dear Mama.

Make small visits with Him every day. Remain in Him. Live with Him. A prayer, a bible verse, a book, a song, or silence. Tape those verses around your whole entire house if you need to! I am preaching to myself here, too. I must remain in Him to grow. I am always growing or dying- I choose which direction. Which direction do you choose?
