Ethans First Day

"And God remembered Rachel, He opened her womb and she gave birth to a son." Genesis 30:22

I held onto this verse for years in hopes God would give me children one day. Like Rachel in the Bible, I was barren without children and without hope for too many years. God heard my prayers and gave me Jude and Levi with some medical help and 14 short months later a surprise miracle son I never thought I would have. When Rachel in the Bible finally had a son, she named him Joseph meaning "He will add."  So on August 20, 2011 at 11:14 am Paul and I named our son Ethan Joseph in remembrance of the miracles and blessing He has added to our lives and the lives of those before us. Ethan's name ties into the musical meanings of his brothers names. Ethan was a temple worship leader in the Bible. Jude means "praise" and Levi means "joined in harmony."

So what's the birth story? Well, the Monday before I had contractions and a lot of pressure and thought for sure it was close to time. After getting some rest and water labor signs slowed greatly. I was 3 centimeters and 70% effaced and took off work the rest of the week. The doctor said it could be any moment. Saturday morning I felt a lot of pressure again. I felt a pop and went to the bathroom and my water broke! "It's go time." Were my exact words. I called the doctor and jumped in to the shower. We had been waiting for this moment and now that it was here, we had to stop to think what to do. Who to call- to text- did we have everything packed? Paul put the boys down for a nap and we waited for my dad and sister to watch the boys. Paul drove me to the hospital and I walked into the hospital around 930am.  Contractions were coming stronger and harder. They were painful! Wow! Waiting over an hour for the spinal for my c-section was tough because the contractions got closer and harder by the minute. I was told I should have another c-section since my first was only 14 months prior for medical reasons.  I thought I was close to delivering naturally-geesh! Since this is my second c-section birth, I knew what to expect. I felt at peace and calm. Paul and I had a conversation on the operating room table and were laughing and making jokes. It was an exciting day. I could not believe after all this time he was finally coming. I could finally see his little face. Our little miracle baby was on his way.

Welcome to our family Ethan Joseph Bowman.
